Dr. Alan Ruddiman, Director
Dr. Ruddiman is an internationally trained rural generalist physician and the immediate past-president of Doctors of BC. Born in Dundee, Scotland, he earned his MB.BCh. medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. A founding member of the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada in 1992, Alan was recognized as an inaugural recipient of the society’s Fellowship in Rural & Remote Medicine in 2009. As a member of the Doctors of BC Council on Health Economics & Policy (CHEP), Alan was appointed in 2012 as the provincial physician lead on the policy paper “Medical Professionalism in British Columbia – Working Together: An Exploration of Professional Relationships in Medicine.” Alan is a University of BC, Faculty of Medicine clinical teacher, to both medical students and residents. He currently serves in as a consultant to the Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc), holding an Associate Director role, by promoting the enhancement of rural health in BC through education and advocacy.
